Introduction Introduction Introduction
Here's a program that is meant to be a fun addition to your PC
______ CarSign CarSign software collection. CarSign allows you to generate custom yellow
car signs that are so popular these days (it all began with "BABY
CarSign CarSign ON BOARD"). With CarSign, you can make a sign that says "BORED
BABY ON BOARD" (or whatever else comes to mind).
Running the Program Running the Program Running the Program
CarSign CarSign CarSign is invoked as follows:
A>CARSIGN [option] [printer]
-LD -LD There is only one available option, which is -LD. This option
tells the program to print out the sign in Low Density mode, if
there is such a mode on your printer. This will cause a grainy
version of the sign to come out. The advantage is that it is
quick, and you can preview how the sign will look before making a
quality print.
_______ printer is one of the following:
MX Epson MX series
FX Epson FX series
PROP IBM ProPrinter
HPTJ HP ThinkJet printer
Running the program with nothing on the command line (e.g. just
CARSIGN) will cause the program to prompt you for everything.
CarSign CarSign Some sample invocations of CarSign follow:
A>CARSIGN (You'll be prompted for everything)
A>CARSIGN PROP (For IBM Proprinter)
A>CARSIGN FX -LD (Epson FX printer in low density)
A>CARSIGN HPTJ (HP ThinkJet)
Supplying Text for the Sign Supplying Text for the Sign Supplying Text for the Sign
There is a full screen fill-in area for you to supply the text
that will appear on your sign. We suggest using all UPPER CASE
letters to enhance the readability of the sign. If you can get
away with it, use every other line.

There are little boxes on the screen where each line of text is
going to go. The number of boxes shows you how many characters
will fit at that location on the sign. The program will not allow
you to exceed this limit.
To enhance the readability of the sign, all text will be auto-
matically centered. This makes for a nicer display.
HP ThinkJet Users HP ThinkJet Users HP ThinkJet Users
The HP ThinkJet printer can only print white signs on the special
HP paper. We could not locate yellow ThinkJet paper. The solution
for HP users (or people who run out of the yellow paper) is to
buy some yellow plastic, and make a diamond-shaped holder for the
sign your printer makes.
HPTJ HPTJ Also, if you specify the printer type to be HPTJ, the program
expects your printer to be in the "HP" mode... in other words
____ switch 5 down. When switch 5 is up, the ThinkJet emulates an
Epson printer. Thus, if you run the program with switch 5 up, you
CarSign CarSign should tell CarSign that your printer is an MX.
The aspect ratio of the sign is better when the printer is in the
CarSign CarSign HP mode (switch 5 down), and this is the suggested way CarSign
should be run when using the HP ThinkJet printer.
Operational Note Operational Note Operational Note
Different vintages of printers, and different clone printers may
handle graphics differently. It is always a good idea to turn
your printer off, then back on after printing a sign (especially
if you intend to do further work with the printer).
Uses for the Program Uses for the Program Uses for the Program
_________ Several people have told us that the program is wonderful at fund
raisers, as the little yellow signs are currently very popular.
Make signs to show your views of yesterdays news. Make signs that
____ no one else would dare print! Let your imagination run wild.
